About Fun and Fancy and About Me

I have lived in Missouri my whole life but only in the Kansas City area since 2009.  I teach Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS, aka home economics) and love my job. I was raised by parents who believed a job worth doing was worth doing well.

This blog will document my many and varied craft projects as well as some of the more entertaining portions of my day to day life.

I married a great guy I call Coach in July 2014. Married life is fun but definitely interesting and challenging. To read more about our wedding and my OCD wedding planning, check out the Wedding page.

My love of cooking was inspired throughout childhood as my mother had an open-door policy to her kitchen. Anyone was welcome to join her there- to watch or to contribute labor. While my mother was not a gourmet chef, we were raised on wholesome home-cooked meals shared during the ritual hour-long (minimum) family dinner. When I became interested in cooking things myself, my mother gave me free reign of her recipe box and the Betty Crocker cookbook she received as a wedding present. Since then, my parents have encouraged my joy of cooking by generously providing support in conversation, material, and taste tests.

My love of scrapbooking does not have as long a history. When I was in college, it was suggested I make a scrapbook for my then boyfriend (and high school sweetheart) as he went off to college far, far away. My new friend, who became my college roommate, showed me the ropes and I've never looked back. The relationship ended, but scrapping did not. Over time I have amassed quite a collection of tools but remain fairly alone in my circle of friends and family as a scrapbook fanatic. Consequently, my blog community is my main source of inspiration and idea-sharing for this hobby of mine.

My love of crafting stems from growing up too poor to buy the pre-made so we had home-made. My mother decorates for every season and holiday and I've learned by watching and observing her. There's nothing I can't take on if I've got a glue gun in hand!

DIY is just handy- every person, girl or boy, should own have a basic set of tools and an electric drill. Why pay someone to fix it or make it when you can do it yourself?!

And that explains why I do what I do. Some find it crazy, but everyone has their own hobbies and pleasures. These are mine!
